Post High School Options and Planning for Students
As school counselors, we are working to helps students make decisions about their futures. Overall, there are seven choices for a student to choose from, including work, an apprenticeship, Job Corps, military, technical college, community college, and a 4-year college or university. Post-high school planning may seem like a job that is focused on high school counselors however, we should be preparing students in elementary and middle school as well. This presentation summary will briefly discuss how to prepare a student for post-high school options at all levels as well as how to get other resources in the mix, including parent involvement. The summary and presentation will also discuss key points that will be necessary with planning for post-high school with students from a different culture, students with a learning disability, as well as student-athletes.
Besides being an encyclopedia of post-high school information for students, school counselors (especially high school) will need to be able to write a good letter of recommendation. This webpage will provide resources on what to expect from the common application for universities as well as what should be included in a good letter of recommendation for a student.
